German love
Since we are now in Germany and have been for a couple of days, we finally found a internet cafe that doesn't charge you up the yaya per 5 min. Im very excited about it. München (as the natives spell it here) reminds me a lot of home. The people are a bit heavier, american music everywhere, and a walmart like stores. Our hostel that we are staying in is exactly like a hotel room which is kinda cool. We have our own bathroom and a little desk and more importantly........A BATH TUB!!! i haven't seen one of those since i left. Everytime we stay somewhere it is pathetically small and you can't even move your arms around or even better you flood the entire room that you are staying in. I was so excited when i saw a bath tub i can't even explain. OOh we also have our own phone but i dont know the country code for Germany so that excitement is over. OK as for the site seeing. One of the wierdest things about Germany is that people here still wear the traditional mountain men, hansel and gretel, helga and olga type clothes. It is SOOO WIERD. When we first got here me and jessica went to the biggest department store in Munich called Hertie and we saw those kind of clothes and just couldn't believe it. The thing with Munich is either people wear that or they wear these obnoxious bright clothing with pointy elf shoes and TONS of accessories. You guys wouldn't believe how ugly some of this clothing is. Me and Jessica have decided the reason that all the clothing is so bright is because they barely see the sun here. I mean when we first arrived it was raining and really ugly, then the next day it was FREEZING. Today isn't that bad but it is just so cold at night that i can't stand it. There is not really much to see in Munich but the people watching is really fun to do lol. The night life is really cool too. Last night we ask the German hotel guy were would be a good place to walk around and find something to do and he gave us this area of Munich that was really cool. There was over like 500 people our age walking around and there were like 30 clubs of all types of music that surrounded the area. The cool part about it was that you can get into most of them for free. So we stumbled upon one called Living 4 which played music we liked. There were like 4 levels to this club and people were just dancing all over the place. They played turkish music, german music (sucks) and TONS OF AMERICAN music like queen, some rap, and even MC HAMMER!!! lol it made me laugh so hard to see people in Europe dance because uh...........they can't. lol. IT isn't like at home because here they dont even know what all the words mean to the american music because they speak GERMAN! lol. So here comes the bad part about Germany. As we were leaving the club we go to the metro station to get back home and in Germany their transit system is completely screwed up. The first night we got here we were going the wrong way, it isn't anything like paris or london is so much worse. You can actually get onto the metro without paying for the ticket because it is very confusing to find were to pay for it BECAUSE everything is in German. Also you can get onto the platforms without even inserting your ticket into somewhere where it allows to you to proceed to the platforms. So basically you can cheat the system and ride for free because there are no regulations.........or so we thought. So we are walking to the station and we see that you have to wait 30 mins at least to ride any one at all so we were rushing trying find one that goes our direction and then we find one. We get onto the S-bahn is one of the lines and we barely sit down and then the stupid German police ask to see our ticket and our id. Me and jessica look at each other and both say something not really nice and then the germans made us get off at the next stop. They took our info down and told us that we were fined 40 Euros for riding without a ticket. Then i proceed to ask where do you buy the tickets because I didn't see where to buy them. We argued for a bit and we still didn#t get out of it which pissed me off and now we each have to pay 20 euros because the Germans have no regulations for their transit system....... what BULL----! Now if that didnt start out the day, when we woke up this afternoon we were going to go to the train station to get our seat for Switzerland and Jessica couldn't find her rail pass. Yes she lost it which made it more difficult because we then had to go all around the station and try to figure out what to do. We had to get a police report written, go to the rail pass office which was closed, and go to the lost and found place where they didn't speak german and the guy was an ass. But all and all after the chaos we found our solution and now she has to buy a whole new one and she will get reimbursed. So confusing here i thought the germans where really organized and up to date......BUT NO just to give you an idea they still type on typewriters at the police station and aren't even linked into a main hub. YEAH thats what i thought too. Ok must go will write again as usual. Mom sorry i haven't called i still can't get a phone card because the germans close everything really early. MISS HOME AND HAPPY 4th of JULY. Im stuck in Europe lol. NO fireworks here i wonder why.

Hi Brinie,
Your account of Germany was sooooo funny. Can't believe your description of the clothes. Hope you took pictures. And from your observations, they are living in the past century!! But as you found out, there was a modern side to the town and glad you had fun. Your mother called last night because she wanted to explain how you got arrested before I read the note and got upset. If you were able to talk to the police, they must have spoke English. I guess WE DID CONQUER THEM AND WIN THE WAR AFTER ALL!! Grandpa said to remind you again, that you are the foreigner. (He has a soft spot for Germans and Germany) Guess that is to be expected, right?! Feel for you out there in the cold, we are roasting here and so is everyone in Phoenix. Did you have a nice "feather bed" to cover with? The Germans are noted for their "feather beds." We are doing fine, even with the heat, except for me. I am covered with hives, blisters, and sores. Have Poison Oak! It is the pits, itch and itch and then I scratch and scratch. Went to the doctor today and got some medicine to take and hopefully in 6 DAYS, I will be healed. Can't believe that it will take 6 days, and I will probably be crazy by that time! Contracted it from helping Grandpa trim in the back a week ago. Oh Well, in due time. Enjoy Switzerland. It was your mother's favorite place in Europe. Love, Grandma & Grandpa
